Above and beyond: Xiaomi demonstrated charging at 300 watts

by time news

Less than a month after losing the first place in the ultra-fast charging segment to Realme, Xiaomi introduced charging technology with a power of no less than 300 watts. The demonstration was performed using a special version of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. This device usually offers charging at a maximum power of 210 watts. In the display device, the battery was admittedly slightly smaller, with a capacity of 4,100 mAh, but the entire charge was completed in less than five minutes.

Xiaomi boasts that the 300 watt charger is not larger or heavier thanks to a modular design and a more effective heat dissipation system. The battery itself consists of small and efficient cells of the 15C type, compared to 10C in the device’s normal battery, and is made of complex materials. In addition, the connections between the cells were reduced by 35%. Improvements in the chemical composition also enable the fast charging power, and a new structure separates the cells and prevents extreme heating.

To be safe, Xiaomi claims that the battery and charger come with no less than 50 different systems designed to precisely control the charging power and prevent unexpected heating. However, the company did not provide information regarding the amount of charging cycles that can be expected at this power.

Another unsaid detail is the launch date, when it is expected that it will be quite some time before devices and chargers that support 300 watts reach mass production. It seems that the purpose of the demonstration at this stage was mainly to show that the strength of the company is still strong in its waist.
