Speaking during his virtual participation in the 5th edition of the Sedona Forum, hosted by the McCain Institute, the ambassador called for greater regional solidarity “to overcome the ongoing pandemic and put us back on the path to growth and progress.”
Faced with the repercussions of the Covid pandemic and a pre-existing context of complex security and humanitarian challenges that undermine the region as a whole, “it has become clear that the regional status quo does not serve the interests of peace or the development of our countries,” she noted.
“There is today an urgent need for synergies and cooperation to address the multidimensional threats facing our region,” stressed Lalla Joumala Alaoui.
In this regard, the ambassador of HM the King said that she has “good hope that the Morocco-United States-Israel agreement can be a shining example of what we can achieve together for the greater good of the region and in the interest of peace.”
For the ambassador, this development is based on “a solid foundation of constant exchanges at the social, cultural and human levels, thanks to the important and dynamic Moroccan Jewish diaspora in Israel and around the world.”
“The agreement signed between the United States, Morocco and Israel last December intends to capitalize on these solid foundations and offer an additional dimension by including trilateral opportunities for strategic cooperation between our three countries,” she noted.
Furthermore, the ambassador noted that the announcement of the Abraham Accords “neither surprised nor shocked” Moroccans, recalling that Muslims and Jews have coexisted side by side for centuries in Morocco, which is distinguished by a significant Jewish presence dating back two thousand years.
“As the only Arab country with a stable Jewish population, a fully functioning Jewish justice system and synagogues throughout the country, I would say there have been few adjustments needed,” the Moroccan diplomat continued.
According to its organizers, the Sedona Forum offers a unique opportunity for American and world leaders to have informal discussions about real solutions to the problems facing the world today. This year, the focus was on the challenges and opportunities that impact democracy in the United States and the world.
The conclave is the annual high-level gathering initiated by the McCain Institute, named after former US Senator John McCain, with the participation of senior US and foreign officials from different backgrounds.
