Lawson on rumors
Of course the New Zealander was also asked today about the rumors that he should replace Sergio Perez in 2025. However, he insists that he does not currently have a cockpit for the coming year.
“I focused on doing my best today,” he clarifies and emphasizes: “I’ll do the same thing tomorrow and hopefully I’ll find out what I can do after that [2025] will.”
Perez himself simply says today: “There is nothing new to add to what I have already said.”
Tsunoda beat Lawson 6-0
If you believe the rumors in the paddock, it currently looks like Liam Lawson will move up to Red Bull in 2025 and become a teammate of Max Verstappen – and not Yuki Tsunoda.
However, the Japanese were once again faster in quality today. And in fact, Lawson couldn’t win a single qualifying duel against Tsunoda this year.
As a reminder: the New Zealander replaced Daniel Ricciardo at the Racing Bulls from Austin – and sence then, from his perspective, he is 0:6 against Tsunoda.
At least Lawson is closer in the racing duel. It’s only 3-2 for Tsunoda, so Lawson can still equalize tomorrow.

Piastre: That’s why the builders championship is critically important
The World drivers’ Championship has a much higher priority in public, but things are frequently enough different for the teams themselves. Oscar Piastri explains: “As a fan, it can be very difficult to understand why the constructors’ championship means so much.”
“It’s not just the financial benefits that the team gets,” he emphasizes, explaining that it’s also related to the “pride” of the employees. He didn’t know that himself before he came to Formula 1.
“If you are not personally affected by it, it is very, very difficult to understand.I think that there is probably a little more attention now as he was fighting so close,” said Piastri.
And for McLaren, a possible title win is even more important because they won the constructors’ championship 26 years ago.
Perez: Racing won’t get much better
P10 today again only for the Mexicans and he himself does not believe that things will go much further on Sunday. He makes it clear that he is not “really” happy with the result.
“There’s just a lack of grip everywhere,” he explains and says the race will be “difficult” so “we gave the car a lot more front end for qualifying,” he reports.
“But I think tomorrow will be the limit at the back, so I expect a difficult race,” said Perez, who is also unhappy with the work of race management.
they initially canceled his Q1 lap time, but then gave it back to him. “You shouldn’t look for track limits if you can’t control it properly,” he says.
Rosberg: Other drivers would crash
We remember Max Verstappen’s moment of shock in the final corner in Q3. Expert Nico Rosberg adds this Sky: “Any other driver would have put him into the wall. It was ‘Max-Magic’ to catch that.”
Or else, the Dutchman did not convince him today. “Max didn’t perform at his best today. He was just as fast in Q2 and had two more attempts in Q3,” said the 2016 world champion.
In fact, Verstappen already drove 1:22.9 in Q2, and did this again in Q3, but was no longer able to improve considerably. “Big mistake there in the first lap and he couldn’t manage the second lap,” said Rosberg.
“I believe him that the car is difficult to drive. But we have seen that he usually gets more out of it. Not today. That was not the best he can do,” he believes.
Sainz hopes to say goodbye
when asked if P3 would be a good result in his final race for Ferrari tomorrow, the Spaniard replied: “No, I wouldn’t sign P3 as I know we can do more.”
He also has “a little less to lose” than the McLaren drivers in front of him as Ferrari is in the chasing role anyway. You also need a win to reach the World cup, recalls Sainz.
and he also wants to win for himself. “This could be my last chance to win for a few years and my last chance to be on the podium for a few years,” he explains.
“And I want to make sure I leave the weekend with no regrets,” he said. Or to put it another way: He will try everything to somehow win the race.
Piastri: Pol would be possible
“It wasn’t the best last lap,” said the Australian angrily after P2 and explained: “There are a few corners I want to drive again.” However, the result is okay.
“There were a few difficult weekends in qualifying,” he reflects, which is why the result was good, “but I knew immediately that I had something left in some places.”
And you can’t afford that at this level. ”Sadly, that happened to me today. And that’s why I’m not in pole position,” said Piastri, who ended up being a good 0.2 seconds slower than his teammate.
Pirelli expects to stop
Yesterday, Pirelli had already expected only one pit stop, and today that impression was reinforced. Mario Isola explains: “As far as the strategy for tomorrow’s race is concerned, one stop with Medium and then Hard on
However, there are three factors that could open the door to a two-stop race,” Isola said.
This can be done if tire degradation is greater than expected. Then of course in a safety car and finally trying to get clear on the road and escape from traffic.
“This could trigger a chain reaction that causes teams to switch to a two-stop strategy,” said Isola, who expects only one stop.
As Nico Hülkenberg has to move back from P4 to P7, Alpine, among others, benefits - the team Haas is currently fighting against for sixth place in the World Championship.
Because of pierre Gasly this also means moving up a place to P5. Max Verstappen (now starting from P4) and George Russell (P6) also move up one place each.
The stewards explain that Hülkenberg himself admitted that he did not follow the instructions of the race director. But he also stressed that he had to do that to get another round.
However, that is no excuse for breaking a rule, according to the race stewards. here is the verdict in full:
“The driver did not dispute during the hearing that he did not comply with the Race director’s instructions, but said he had no choice but to break the rules to fight him.”
“While the Stewards acknowledge that the location of the team’s garages limits their options for putting the cars out on the road, this cannot be used as an excuse to breach any regulations.”
“The ban on overtaking in certain areas such as the pit lane or, in this case, the pit exit, is put in place to prevent potentially hazardous situations and therefore the Stewards decide that a drop is necessary grid in this case.”
Bitter: Nico Hülkenberg has to drop three places on the starting grid. The verdict has just come in. More on that soon!
P8 today for the Spaniard and a really good result. However, Alonso took the chance after qualifying to shoot against the TV director of Formula 1. Because they are consciously trying to make him look bad.
The background is his radio message yesterday where he said he’s never had a car that bad. he is concerned that the FOM is determined to broadcast only his “bad opinions”.
Because he also said a lot of positive things. But you don’t transfer them. Formula 1 has been trying to portray him as a “grumpy person” for “many years”.“They will not succeed,” Alonso said.
The context of his radio messages is critically important, but this is usually missing, making him appear in a false light.
We stay in the middle of the field, where Guanyu Zhou was already eliminated in Q1, while teammate valtteri bottas finished second in the first division. The Chinese justify this with their stance on the road.
He explains: “Today’s qualifying was disappointing because I think we had the chance to reach Q2 easily. Unfortunately, when I left the garage I ended up at the front of the field.”
Consequently, it had no slipstream.”That
teammate Bottas even made it into Q3 and finished ninth. “Of course I’m very happy with this result,” said the Finn after his final Formula 1 qualification (at least for the time being).
“It didn’t come out of nowhere, so to speak,” admits Bottas after saying it was his best performance of the year. “Honestly, it was one of the best laps of my life,” he says happily.
The Dane was also fast all weekend – but then surprisingly dropped out in Q2. He can’t explain it to himself, especially as his teammate came fourth.
He drove 1:23.6 and was in P7; in Q2 he was a good two tenths slower. “The performance somehow slipped out of my hands,” says Magnussen, who has no clarification.
It’s kind of puzzling how you can be good and then without changing the car at all, switch to a new set of tires and you’re nowhere. It’s a bit strange,” he ponders.
Not only was nico Hülkenberg taken from the middle of the field today, Pierre Gasly also took a strong sixth place. “To be honest, this is probably one of the best qualifying sessions,” said the Frenchman.
A “significant advancement” has only been achieved through further major changes to eligibility. he was proud to finish just behind Max Verstappen and in front of George Russell in the Mercedes.
The “main goal” on Sunday is of course to defend P6 in the World Cup against Haas. You should never be too optimistic, but after you qualify he thinks you are well placed for the race.
What strategies are teams using to adapt to tire degradation on race day?
Ver, some teams are currently assessing their strategies to adapt to the conditions they might face on race day. The potential for shifts in tire degradation could lead to unexpected changes in approach, and Pirelli’s insights are crucial for teams as they prepare for the race.
Moreover, with the adjustments in starting positions due to Hülkenberg’s penalty, the dynamic on the grid will shift, offering teams like Alpine a chance to capitalize on the opportunities presented. As the battle for positions in the constructors’ championship heats up, every position counts, and the teams will have to strategize effectively not only for their own drivers but also in relation to their direct competitors.
the next race promises to be a pivotal moment in the season for many teams, as they balance the pursuit of individual glory with the overarching goal of constructorship success. the narrative surrounding the constructors’ championship reveals just how crucial these points can be, not only for financial repercussions but also for team morale and pride within the organization. As Oscar Piastri mentioned, it’s a matter of more than just numbers; it’s about the legacy and achievements that the team can build upon, echoing throughout the corridors of their headquarters long after the season concludes.
In essence, the drivers’ insights combined with the strategic approach from their teams will set the stage for a thrilling race, where every decision may determine the final standings. Everything from tire choices to race pace management could play a significant role, and drivers like Sainz, Piastri, and Perez will be eager to showcase their racing prowess while navigating these strategic waters. Thus, fans can look forward to both a dramatic display of skill on the track and a cerebral game of strategy behind the scenes.
