18th BCS (Information – General) cadre officer Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin has been given additional charge as Director General (DG) of Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB).
Thursday (August 22) Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This information has been confirmed in an office order signed by Masood Khan.
According to the office order, BCS (Information – General) cadre officer Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin, who is on deputation as Director of Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), has been given the routine duties of Director General of PIB in addition to his current duties.
Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin, who has been appointed as Director General, has previously served as Director of Film and Publication Directorate, Director of Bangladesh Film Archive, Deputy Director (Technical) of Directorate of Mass Communication. Besides, he served as the Editor of Publications Sachitra Bangladesh of Directorate of Films and Publications and Senior Information Officer in Dinajpur, Chittagong, Tangail, Jamalpur and Patuakhali.
Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin started his career as a script writer in the Directorate of Films and Publications in January 1999. He is experienced in film production, publishing and newspaper law. Two of his major books have been published on Media Support Law, Policy and Rules and Law of Everyday Life.
The officers-employees congratulated Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin who got additional responsibility as Director General in the seminar room of PIB. The former director general of PIB Zafar Wazed and one of his assistant directors (administration) are currently in charge. Zakir Hossain’s corruption and irregularities were discussed. PIB officers-employees. He demanded to remove Zakir Hossain and bring back the working environment. In view of this demand, the Director General said, fix the working environment. I will try to solve everything through your actions.

It is to be noted that since last August 7, the officers-employees, who have been discriminated against for a long time, have been protesting and going on strike against Zafar Wazed and Zakir, who are involved in embezzlement of PIB’s provident fund, irregularities, corruption and administrative arbitrariness. In the face of the movement, PIB Director General (DG) Zafar Wazed resigned on August 13. However, one of his associate director (administration) Md. Zakir Hussain is busy lobbying the new administration without resigning yet and did not join office until Thursday (August 22). This morning, the PIB officers and employees who were discriminated against started a protest march at the PIB premises and went around the circuit house road and ended up at the PIB premises. There they announced a strike until Zakir’s removal.
