Lucknow: Sudhir Kumar Jain, Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, has been arrested by the ABVP for allegedly attending an Iftar organized by students. The ABVP protested against the incident and set fire to the VC’s column.

The VC’s office said the university’s approach was to include all sections and that attending the iftar was the right decision. VC participated in the Iftar organized by Mahila Mahavidyalaya, a women’s college of the university. The VC’s office shared the pictures on social media. With this, the ABVP came out in protest. ABVP leader Adhokshaj Pandey said this was the first time the university had attended the VC Iftar.

However, the VC’s office explained on social media that former VCs had also attended the iftar. Apart from Iftar, VCs also attend Janmashtami and Saraswati Pooja organized by university students, the office said.
