In July 2020 in Nanganallur, Chennai, it was reported that Subbaiah Shanmugam had urinated in front of the door of his grandmother who was alone in his opposite house due to a parking problem in the apartment.
Also released was a video of him throwing used face shields. Subsequently, the Adambakkam police registered a case against him under three sections of the Prevention of Violence Against Women Act, including obscene speech. Subbaiah Shanmugam is currently under arrest in a case that has been pending for two years.
