Academics in Casablanca underline the importance of American recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces

On the occasion of the inauguration of the Master’s courses in Moroccan-American studies at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of Ben M’sik under the theme “USA and sovereignty of Morocco over its southern provinces”, they spent review the multiple dimensions of this decision.

In this regard, the professor at the Mohammed V University of Rabat, specialist in the history of the Moroccan Sahara, Noureddine Belhaddad discussed the significance of this decision, noting that the American position draws its strength from the position of the United States as as a world power.

According to the academic, the United States only makes decisions after deep reflection, indicating that this recognition emanates from the strong historical relations linking the two countries, in addition to the pioneering diplomatic roles played by the Kingdom to put an end to this conflict artificial.

In this regard, he recalled that the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom to definitively resolve the conflict around the Moroccan Sahara is recognized by several States, led by the United States, as being a serious basis, noting that the Sahara has always been part of the Moroccan state.

Professor Belhaddad also highlighted the great achievements made by Moroccan diplomacy in favor of the national question, including the increasingly large number of countries to recognize the Moroccan character of the Sahara, led by the United States.

Furthermore, the dean of the Faculty of Ben M’sik, Abdelkader Gongai, indicated that the choice of the theme “USA and Sovereignty of Morocco over its southern provinces” is a strategic choice given that it is about the first national cause, specifying that the objective is to educate students on the historical data relating to this issue.

For his part, the director of the Moroccan-American studies laboratory, Mohamed Benzidane indicated that this meeting is part of a general context marked by major changes that the world is experiencing in the treatment of decisive issues including the question of the Moroccan Sahara, noting that this question has taken a new turn with international recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.

According to Professor Benzidane, this inaugural course takes place in a particular context, in this case the strengthening of cooperation between Morocco and the United States, believing that new perspectives are opening up to promote the partnership between the two countries at several levels. .
