In a commentary on the Ministerial Coordination Meeting on the Initiative of HM the King, held last Saturday in Marrakech, the Peruvian site emphasizes that this Initiative “is part of the solidarity actions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI towards African countries in general, and the Sahel region in particular, offering important opportunities for the economic transformation of the entire region, and this by accelerating regional connectivity, trade flows and shared prosperity in the Sahel region.”

The same source adds that this “promising Initiative is part of Morocco’s major structuring projects on the African continent”, recalling the content of the final communiqué adopted at the end of this Meeting by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Morocco, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Chad.

“FPP” recalls that “the objective of this meeting was to support the international initiative launched by HM King Mohammed VI to facilitate access of the Sahel States to the Atlantic Ocean, thus offering great opportunities for the economic transformation of the entire region.”

In the final communiqué, writes the same source, the countries of the Sahel region gave their full support to this Initiative with regional and international scope, which had been announced for the first time during the Royal Speech on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Green March.

“The Sovereign,” adds the Peruvian site, “had then indicated that Morocco was ready to put all its port and railway infrastructures, among others, at the service of the African countries of the Sahel, which do not have a coastline, in order to facilitate their access to the port infrastructures of the Kingdom, such as the large Atlantic port of Dakhla, in order to facilitate their access to international trade and, consequently, to achieve their full economic and social development.”

Thus, in order to make this Initiative a reality, the ministers present at the Marrakech meeting agreed to set up “a national Task Force” in each country, “in order to prepare and propose models for implementing the agreement in question, with the aim of achieving the full development of their respective societies,” concludes the Peruvian news site.
