DIG/ The Minister of Economy and Investments, Mays Mouissi, held a working session on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, with officials from the Ministry of Housing, the National Real Estate Company (SNI) of Gabon, the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC), the National Agency for Urban Planning, Topographical Works and Cadastre (ANUTTC) and the international financial institution Shelter Afrique.
The main purpose of this meeting was The aim is to lay the foundations for the effective establishment of a mortgage refinancing fund. This will enable banks to offer their clients more flexible credit conditions in order to facilitate access to housing in Gabon..
Furthermore, the launch of this instrument will allow banks to increase their lending capacity, reduce financial risks and expand access to real estate credit.
For the government member, the high cost of mortgage loans in Gabon prevents thousands of Gabonese from becoming homeowners. Added to this is the low supply of financing solutions for households with modest or irregular incomes.
To facilitate access to housing in our country, one of the possible solutions is to offer households property loans at advantageous rates and repayable over the long term (15 to 30 years).
It is with this in mind that the member of the Transitional Government gave instructions for the establishment of a working group to consider the creation of the mortgage refinancing fund.
This will mainly enable the development of property loan offers for low and middle income populations, thereby promoting access to housing for a larger part of the population.
