It’s a thank you note. And a few reassuring phrases. At the end of the day, this Monday afternoon, the family of Mathieu Kassovitz, seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Sunday afternoon, gave news of the 56-year-old filmmaker via the words of his father, himself a director: “Peter Kassovitz and his family would like to thank all those who have shown their affection and friendship to Mathieu Kassovitz. Thanks also go to the wonderful nursing staff who are doing everything possible for his good recovery. The operations of this night went well. Mathieu will begin a normal process of healing, rest and getting back into shape. He is surrounded by his family and loved ones. Thank you all for your support. »

On Sunday, Mathieu Kassovitz had suffered multiple fractures, particularly in the pelvis, and a head trauma after losing control of his motorcycle while he was on the Linas-Monthléry racing circuit, in Essonne. Transported to the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital (Val-de-Marne) by the Smur d’Arpajon, he had been plunged into an artificial coma. The filmmaker was operated on the night of Saturday to Sunday and this Monday, his vital prognosis was therefore no longer engaged.

The accident occurred when “Visions” will be released in theaters this Wednesday, a thriller by Yann Gozlan – the author of the highly acclaimed “Black Box”, in which Kassovitz plays the disturbing husband of the heroine played by Diane Kruger . This Monday, the two actors were to promote the film in “the Original Band” on France Inter. Diane Kruger, she was invited on RFM and had to record a number of “En Aparté” on Canal +. These interviews have all three been cancelled. The duo was also scheduled for the “C à vous” program on France 5 this Tuesday. The German actress will participate, alone, if the condition of Mathieu Kassovitz is stabilized. It is also on this condition that she will be on the set of “Télématin” on France 2 this Tuesday morning.

This Wednesday and until Friday, the filmmaker and actor also had to pass new auditions for the adaptation of “La Haine” into a musical. Mathieu Kassovitz announced this project on Instagram, which he had already mentioned in 2020, on June 25. Inspired by the cult film he made in 1995, this show is scheduled for “end of 2024” in Zeniths. “La Haine live (will be) a mixture of cinema and spectacle”, had specified the artist, promising to be “very respectful of the original work”. “It’s been thirty years since we touched on this project, we’ve aged, but we’re still on the attack and we still have things to say,” he added.

After a first casting session in July, a second will therefore take place this week to choose the three main performers, who will take over the roles of Vinz, Saïd and Hubert, portrayed in the film by Vincent Cassel, Saïd Taghmaoui and Hubert Koundé. This Monday, it was decided that the auditions for “La Haine live” scheduled for Wednesday to Friday would be maintained, without Mathieu Kassovitz of course, but in the presence of his co-director Serge Denoncourt, the producer of the show Farid Benlagha, of the caster and the choreographers.

A few days before his accident, Kassovitz was also at the Angoulême festival for the presentation of “Visions” but also “Kings of the track” by Thierry Klifa. In this detective comedy, he plays the son of a family of broken arm burglars led by a matriarch played by Fanny Ardant. The film is due to be released in theaters on March 27, 2024.
