“Accidental” death of a doctor generates justice… 2 years later

One of the most controversial cases in recent years in our country finally came to a conclusion after extensive criminal proceedings. It is about the “accidental” death of a doctor that occurred in 2021 in Hidalgo. From that moment on, an investigation began in which it was accused that the authorities made several mistakes that led to the fatal outcome.

In chronological order everything was generated on June 9, 2021 in the Progres community of Oregon. A traffic accident involving the Dr. Beatriz Hernández Ruíz29, prompted the arrival of several police officers to provide support.

The first problem was the way the agents handled the case. According to the investigation, they abused their power and directly accused the doctor of being responsible. Even through the video of one of the street cameras, it is observed that three elements forced the doctor to get on a patrol car.

After depriving her of her freedom, the health professional was admitted to a Public Prosecutor’s Office to give her statement on what happened. The abuses were repeated at the site until the situation got out of control.

The tragic moment occurred during the early morning when Dr. Beatriz was found passed out on the floor and with a purple mark on her neck. Although she tried to offer help, it was too late.

Based on the case file, the authorities concluded that it was a “suicidio accidental”. The death letter indicates that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia due to incomplete suspension. Since then, the victim’s relatives began various mobilizations to demand justice for everything that happened.

In this sense, it is worth remembering that Beatriz had studied medicine at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). While at the time serving as a surgical resident at the Pachuca General Hospital.

For its part, almost two years after the tragic event, the investigation finally reached a resolution. The Hidalgo State Human Rights Commission (CDHEH) published recommendation R-VPO-0003-23 ​​and within its content it mentions that the authorities must offer a public apology.

Although it is clear that the above does not change the death of the doctor, at least it sets a precedent. In the same way, it is made clear that it must be recognized that there was an abuse of authority and at no time was the case handled correctly.
