According to Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russia will emerge stronger from the uprising of the Wagner mercenary group. “Russia has always overcome all difficulties,” Lavrov told journalists in Moscow on Friday. “It will be the same this time,” he added. The country is becoming “stronger and stronger” by overcoming challenges.

The Wagner Group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, took control of several military bases in southern Russia on Friday and Saturday last week. Prigozhin announced a march on Moscow. After mediation by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Prigozhin finally broke off the uprising on Saturday evening.

The deal provided for Prigozhin to go into exile in Belarus. No penalties were imposed on the insurgents, who said Russian intelligence services had dropped investigations into them. Western observers saw this as a sign of the Kremlin’s weakness.
