The Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) has launched a solidarity campaign so that more than 2,000 young people from Syria and Lebanon, who will not be able to travel to World Youth Day (WYD) in Lisbon, Live a “WYD” in your countries.

Due to the serious crisis facing Syria and Lebanon, 2,100 young people from these Middle Eastern nations will not be able to attend the world event that will be held in the capital of Portugal, with the presence of Pope Francis, from August 1 to 6.

ACN explains in its website that “the situation of brutal crisis, and even war in northern Syria, in which their respective countries find themselves, will not allow them to travel to meet Pope Francis and hundreds of thousands of young people from 184 different countries and feel, thus, members of the same body that is the universal Church”.

However, he continues, “the Church in these countries, once again does not daunt in the face of difficulties and places itself at the service of an exceptional generation that, being able to emigrate to other countries, decides to remain to start now to rebuild the future of their countries.” nations”.

For this reason, “the Church in Syria and the Church in Lebanon have launched to organize nothing more and nothing less than local WYD paths to ignite the hearts of those who will lead the future in these regions of the Middle East.”

The main obstacle is the lack of funds for the expenses involved in these meetings such as food, travel and accommodation, among others.
