Ioannina is one of the two stops in Greece of Manu Chao’s European and not only tour, characterized by a selection of small venues for a friendlier contact with the spectators.
The charismatic, influential artist and activist will appear today Saturday for the first time in Ioannina, at the outdoor theater of EHM, where he will present an acoustic program, to follow on Wednesday, September 20, another appearance in the open space of the Lazarist Monastery of Thessaloniki.
“Inspired, naturally creative and passionately dedicated to music, Manu Chao started out as a member of the Paris alternative scene sometime in the mid-80s, until he founded Mano Negra, the biggest band in the history of Galician rock, bringing Spanish music at the forefront. Due to his special nature as an artist, he found himself at the center of the music industry, experiencing unprecedented success, without ever corrupting for a moment. On the contrary, he continued to fight through his songs, ideas and his general attitude against injustice and social inequalities.
Intensely politicized, Manu Chao sings in French, Spanish, Arabic, Galician, English, why not Greek, he articulates a musical discourse that filters his social sensibilities with the canvas of a multicultural and multilingual sonic universe. From reggae to punk and from rock to ethnic forms, Manu Chao’s music is a melting pot of cultures with his distinctive voice captivating every viewer.
In 1998, with Clandestino, he stirred the waters of the world music scene and since then he has released a series of excellent records, with whatever musical project he has tackled, as evidenced by the huge success of Me Gustas Tu, Welcome to Tihuana, King of Bongo, Je ne t ‘aime plus, Clandestino, Politik Kills and so many more.
His songs were instantly loved by the public turning him into a phenomenon for modern world music production.
