A Chinese acrobat died after falling while performing a number with her husband, using ropes made of fabrics supported by a crane, in a town in the Chinese prefecture of Suzhou, Anhui province.
The woman performed the show holding only her husband’s neck, who was well attached to the ropes, but finally fell due to the precariousness of his grip when they were swinging.
The tragedy caused stupor and screams from the public. The acrobat was unconscious on the ground and she was taken to the hospital, where she died due to the seriousness of her condition, various local media reported.
The company that organizes the show maintained that it previously asked the couple to take security measures and hold on to protection ropes, but this was rejected by both, who said they were experts.
In another video that circulated online, the host of the act is heard saying that the acrobats would not use safety ropes to make the performance seem more real.
Finally, it was determined that the organizers had not complied with the necessary procedures and regulations, and did not have the approval for this type of presentations and, therefore, their event had been illegal. Neither was emergency protection provided to guarantee the safety of the artists and the use of a crane for such purposes is not allowed.
