Prime Minister Fiala: “I have confidence in the resilience of Korea’s democracy”
Acting President Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance, spoke on the phone with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala on the 8th and exchanged opinions on ways to develop relations between the two countries, including the nuclear power plant project.
According to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Acting President Choi expressed gratitude over the phone for the recent expression of deep condolences by key Czech figures to the victims of the Jeju Air plane accident and their bereaved families.
In addition, he explained that the Korean government will carry out its work unwaveringly in various fields, including the economy and security, and manage external relations stably even in difficult situations.
Acting President Choi proposed that the two countries hold close consultations to unwaveringly promote major diplomatic schedules such as major cooperation projects and high-level exchanges between the two countries, such as the Dukovany nuclear power plant construction project, this year, which marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Fiala evaluated that he has confidence in the resilience of Korea’s democracy, and expressed hope that the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries will continue to be strengthened this year, which marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership.
Meanwhile, Acting President Choi and Prime Minister Fiala decided to continue discussing specific plans for the two countries to expand cooperation in all areas, including high-tech industry, science and technology, economy and finance, following nuclear power plant cooperation.
‘Team Korea’, led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, was selected as the preferred negotiating party for the construction of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant in the Czech Republic in July of last year and is expected to sign a final contract in March. The scale of this project to build two nuclear power plants in Dukovany, Czech Republic, is worth 24 trillion won.
The government is making all-out efforts to win the final order, but there are concerns that President Yoon Seok-yeol’s December 3 martial law and impeachment may be a variable in the contract.
