On the 16th, Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-soo received a report on the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, and instructed each ministry to implement quarantine measures without a hitch.
Acting President Han said in a media notice that day, “The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will proceed without a hitch with quarantine measures in accordance with the emergency action guidelines, such as access control, intensive disinfection, culling, and temporary movement suspension to farms where outbreaks occurred, and investigate the circumstances of the outbreak through epidemiological investigations. “Please conduct a thorough investigation,” he urged.
He then emphasized, “The Ministry of Environment will make every effort to inspect the fences around the farm where the outbreak occurred and to search for and capture dead wild boar carcasses.”
He also added, “Relevant ministries, local governments, and related organizations will actively cooperate in implementing quarantine measures.”
Previously, the Central Accident Control Headquarters announced that an ASF occurred at a pig farm in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. This is the 11th confirmed case this year, and it has been 43 days since it occurred in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do on the 3rd of last month.
In order to prevent the spread of ASF, Jungsubon is sending an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to this farm to control access and conduct an epidemiological investigation. Pigs being raised on the farm are scheduled to be culled in accordance with emergency action guidelines.
