Doha: The Interior Ministry continues to step up action against those violating Kovid restrictions in Qatar. Another 357 people were arrested on Friday for violating the law, officials said. Of these, 345 were arrested by the authorities for not wearing masks.

Authorities arrested 12 people for not having the Ihtiras application on their mobile phones. All those arrested were handed over to the prosecution for further action. Home Ministry officials have arrested thousands of people in Qatar so far and handed them over to prosecution for violating Kovid regulations.

Officials said the action was taken in line with the cabinet decision. It is mandatory in the country to wear a mask in all public places. Violations related to not wearing a mask will be dealt with under Order No. 17 of 1990 for the prevention of infectious diseases. So far, thousands of people have been arrested and handed over to the prosecution for further action, the health ministry said in a statement.
