The COP29 Presidency team is holding off-site events this week to discuss the most pressing issues on the climate agenda.
As reported on Friday by Day.Az with reference to information from the official COP29 portal, during the seminars held in Malawi and Turkey, the preparation of new biennial transparency reports (BTR) by the countries participating in the UN Climate Convention was discussed, which should be presented ahead of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in November.
In addition, on July 26-27, a visiting meeting of negotiating groups is taking place in Shamakhi, the central topic of which is climate finance – the main issue of COP29.
Expert meetings to agree on issues on the COP29 agenda will continue until September.
In September, according to the COP presidency program, high-level meetings will be held, in particular, in early September – the “Fifth Global Conference on Synergies between the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil, holds the presidency of the G20 and COP30), which will be attended by the presidents of COP29 and COP28 and other officials.
At the end of September, in New York, within the framework of the UN General Assembly, there will be a meeting of the COP Presidency Troika – the UAE (COP28), Azerbaijan (COP29) and Brazil (COP30) at the highest level.
Later, ministers from the COP Troika countries will participate in the G20 Joint Ministerial Conference on Climate and Finance.
These meetings precede events in late October and early November related to COP29.
It should be noted that the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held in Baku from November 11 to 22.
