Song Il-geun (Song Min-seop), a movie actor and first-generation makeup artist, passed away at his home in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, on the 3rd. Age 102.
Born in 1923, the deceased entered the entertainment industry by joining the Joseon Music Theater Company in 1942. He worked as a musical actor in Jeil Music Theater Company, Ramira Theater Company, Shinhyup Music Theater Company, and Bando Theater Company.
He debuted as an actor in 1959 with a minor role in director Jeon Chang-geun’s ‘Emperor Gojong and Doctor Ahn Jung-geun.’ According to the OTR performance portal site, starting in the 1960s, taking advantage of the experience from the musical theater troupe, actors performed minor roles and did makeup together.
Afterwards, she continued her acting career until the 1980s, including ‘Rice’ (1963), ‘Woman with Long Eyelashes’ (1970), and ‘Miss Rhinoceros, Mr. Korando’ (1989).
Her make-up career continued into the 2000s, including ‘I Hate Sangammama’ (1967), ‘Praise of Death’ (1991), ‘Fighting Father’ (2001), and ‘Bari Bari Jjang’ (2005).
It received a special category award (makeup) at the 31st Grand Bell Awards Film Festival (1993).
The funeral is in room 6 of Anyang Funeral Home in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, and the funeral is held at 5:30 a.m. on the 6th, at the Hambaeksan Memorial Park. 031-456-5555
