The actor Michael J. Fox, who has suffered from Parkinson’s since 1991, revealed that he began to suffer the first symptoms of the disease after a night out with his colleague Woody Harrelson.
Fox explained in his new documentary “STILL: A Movie About Michael J. Fox” that he woke up one morning to find his little finger was moving on its own. “I woke up with a ferocious hangover, realizing that my pinky had perked up. For God’s sake, it’s just your fucking finger. Had I hit my head? The tape of the events of the night before was blurry at best. Woody Harrelson was at the bar the night before. Perhaps we had had one of our legendary drunken fights? But he did not remember any fight. I found myself in an acid bath of fear and professional insecurity,” said the Back to the Future actor.
“The tremor was a message. Not even the most paranoid fantasy I could have prepared could have prepared me for the words the neurologist spoke to me that day: Parkinson’s disease. I replied, ‘You know who you’re talking to, right? I’m not someone this is supposed to happen to.’ He said a few more words like ‘progressive, degenerative, incurable’. He added, ‘You lose this. You lose this game. This is not won’. I remember that I stayed in the street looking for an answer. My world exploded. I should have seen it coming, the cosmic price I had to pay for all my success,” said the Canadian-American.
“STILL: a movie about Michael J. Fox (Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie)” arrived this Friday at the Apple TV + catalog. This is a documentary about one of the biggest stars of the 80’s who rose to fame unexpectedly, and whose last years have been made completely difficult by a diagnosis of Parkinson’s and the sudden death of his relatives.
