Popular small screen actor Oliul Haque Rumi passed away due to cancer (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun).
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital on Monday (April 22). His family sources confirmed this information.
According to family sources of the actor, he was suffering from colon cancer. Initially went to Chennai for treatment. After returning to the country, he was admitted to a private hospital in the capital and was receiving treatment.
Rumi has spent more than three decades in acting. He acted in numerous dramas and movies during this long journey. Rumi started acting in 1988 with the play ‘Ekhno Kritdas’ at Theater Bailey Road. In the same year, he made his debut on the small screen with the play ‘Kon Kanan Phool’. Apart from television, he also acted in films. Oliul Haque Rumi made his big screen debut in 2009 with the film ‘Daria Parder Daulati’.
The notable dramas he has acted in are—’Dhaka to Barisal‘, ‘American Saheb’, ‘Journey by Bus’, ‘Bakier Naam Ghapi’, ‘Jamaj Series’, ‘Comedy 420’, ‘Chaita Pagal’, ‘Jeevaner Ooligli’, ‘City covered with clouds’ etc.
Rumi was born in Barguna. His father was a brave freedom fighter Azizul Haque. Mother Hamida Haque. Rumi was the youngest among three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Rumi’s death has cast a shadow of mourning in the showbiz neighborhood.
