The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought an explanation from actor Siddharth for making defamatory remarks about badminton player Saina Nehwal.

On the 5th, Prime Minister Modi returned to Delhi to launch various welfare schemes in the state of Punjab due to security concerns caused by the struggle of farmers on the way there. Badminton player Saina Nehwal took to Twitter to comment on the controversy. “If the security of the Prime Minister of any country is compromised, that country cannot claim to be safe. I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on Prime Minister Modi by the anarchists in Punjab,” Saina Nehwal said in her tweet.
Actor Siddharth, who tagged Saina’s post, has come under fire on social media for his controversial remarks. Controversy arose as to why this was so degrading to women. Following this, singer Chinmayi, actress Khushbu, cricketer Suresh Raina and many others including National Women’s Commission chairman Rekha Sharma have condemned Siddharth. Responding to the criticism, Siddharth said, “I did not say anything substandard. I do not think anyone should be insulted. That’s all.”
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has written to the Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra police asking them to take action against actor Siddharth. Also, notice has been sent to Siddharth. The notice said, “Your comment is aimed at insulting women and the dignity of women. The Commission strongly condemns such abusive and inappropriate comments against a woman. We voluntarily take up the matter for investigation.”
