India’s National Film Award-winning director Utpalendu Chakraborty has passed away. He breathed his last on Tuesday (August 20) evening at his residence in Regent Park, South Kolkata. He was 78 years old. His other identity is the father of actress Ritabhari and Chitrangada Chakraborty. But they did not go to the funeral ceremony of their father.
Indian media reported today that actress Ritabhari was not present at Baba Utpalendu’s funeral. Because he was not in Kolkata. There are also questions about whether he would have attended his father’s funeral even though he was in the city. Because Ritabhari’s relationship with her father was not at all sweet.
Another Indian media reported that Utpalendu was married to director Shatrupa Sanyal in his personal life. Actress Ritabhari and Chitrangada Chakraborty were born in this family. In 2000, Shatarupa-Utpalendu’s family broke up. After that, the two daughters had no contact with this director.
Director Utpalendu went to his house last April. Waist and right leg injured, bones broken. Utpalendu’s assistant Arghya Mukherjee told the media at the time that the director had prostate problems. He had to stay in the hospital for several days. First admitted to SSKM. Later transferred to another hospital. Renowned physician Mukul Bhattacharya treated Utpalendu Chakraborty. All expenses of his treatment are borne by the state government. The director returned home at the beginning of May. He drank tea on Tuesday (August 20) evening. Then he fell asleep. The doctor was quickly informed. But by then it was all over. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over the death of Utpalendu Chakraborty.
Utpalendu Chakraborty was born in 1948 in Pabna district of Bangladesh. In the eighties, Utpalendu directed popular movies like ‘Mainatdanta’, ‘Chokh’, ‘Debshishu’. Apart from national awards, he also has international awards, President’s Award and Bangavibhushan Award. However, she was not found in the mainstream of the glamor world.
