The Italian actress Sandra Milo has died in Rome at the age of 90. Her family announced this on Monday. Milo became famous through her collaboration with Federico Fellini.
As a child of Italian parents, Sandra Milo was born Elena Liliana Greco on March 11, 1933 in Tunis born. She was a cousin of Yves Montand, studied at the University of Milan and also worked as a photo model and nude model. At the beginning of her career she played mainly in Italian and French productions. She was cast as a “curve wonder”, a gangster’s bride, an easy girl or even a beauty from high society. In Italy she was one of the cinema stars of the 1950s.
Famous and in a relationship with Federico Fellini

Sandra Milo became internationally known through the cinema classic “Eight and a Half” by director Federico Fellini. In it she played alongside Marcello Mastroianni – a director in the film – his lover Carla. For this film and for her performance in Fellini’s “Julia and the Ghosts” she was awarded a Nastro d’Argento, the Italian film journalists’ prize. In total, Sandra Milo was involved in more than 80 film and television productions between 1955 and 2023.
Fellini and Milo were a couple for more than 15 years. In later years, Milo mainly made comedies such as “I was a male bombshell” and “Django, where is your coffin”. After her film career ended, she was a presenter on Italian television. In the meantime, she made a name for herself through an affair with the former Italian Prime Minister Bettino Craxi of the Socialist Party.
Sandra Milo died on January 29th at her home in Rome.
