Actress Véronique Barrault dies in a road accident in Gironde

She was an understated figure in the Splendid. French actress Véronique Barrault died in a car accident on Tuesday at the age of 64, the actress’ agent told Le Parisien, confirming information from Sud-Ouest. The actress was a passenger on a motorcycle which hit a car around 10:45 p.m. in the town of Camblanes-et-Meynac in Gironde, about ten kilometers from Bordeaux, reports the regional daily.

A career in theater and cinema

The 60-year-old driver of the motorcycle, seriously injured, was rescued by firefighters and evacuated to hospital. The motorist, more slightly injured, was not transported. The actress had started on the boards, alongside the Splendid team at the Café de la Gare, a famous café-théâtre which has seen dozens of artists like Patrick Dewaere, Coluche and Gérard Depardieu parade in Paris. Then, Véronique Barrault had started a career in the cinema, after meeting Patrice Leconte who offered her a role in “Les Bronzés font du ski”.

The actress had continued her career in French comedies, several times giving the reply to the actress and director Josiane Balasko (“Gazon Maudit”, “My life is a hell”), before chaining supporting roles alongside Didier Bourdon (“Seven years of marriage”) Alain Chabat and Charlotte Gainsbourg (“Lend me your hand”).
