TRENTO. The remains of a soldier fallen in the Great War, presumably from the Austro-Hungarian army, were found on the Adamello, at 3,100 metres above sea level in the Crozzon di Lares area in Giudicarie. The Carabinieri of Carisolo and the Alpine Rescue Team of the Carabinieri of Madonna di Campiglio-Carisolo collaborated with the Superintendence of Archaeological Heritage in the identification and recovery activity.

The remains of bones and organic tissue, as well as elements of the jacket and coat still almost intact, were found thanks, so to speak, to the glacier retreat which for almost a hundred years guarded the remains of the soldier.

Now, transferred to the Trento Cemetery, after the formal authorizations issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, it has been made available to the Office for the Protection of Culture and Memory of the Ministry of Defense for subsequent investigations aimed at reconstructing the soldier’s history, also thanks to autopsy tests and historical documentation, until, if possible, giving the soldier a name.

The recovery was achieved thanks to the Arma specialists included in the Alpine Rescue Teamwho have participated in similar recoveries several times, in addition to normal mountain rescue services.
