The chief adviser of the interim government. Muhammad Yunus was met by a senior delegation led by Asian Development Bank (ADB) South Asia Director General Takeo Konishi. On Sunday (September 15) they met with the Chief Advisor at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna.
ADB’s South Asia Director General expressed interest in supporting the interim government in Bangladesh’s important reforms, saying ADB has a long history of working in Bangladesh.
Takeo Konishi said the interim government has an opportunity to provide policy loans to Bangladesh to strengthen its efforts to stabilize the economy.
Chief advisor. Yunus said that the student revolution has given Bangladesh a new opportunity to rebuild the fragmented institutions.
“We are at ground zero,” he told the ADB delegation. Everything needs to be done as soon as possible.
The meeting discussed important economic issues including financial sector reforms initiated by the interim government, digitization of tax data, data transparency, energy, private sector and investment.
Lutfi Siddiqui, Special Envoy of the Chief Adviser, noted the dynamics of the foreign exchange market and improvement in reserves and remittances, saying there has been a noticeable rise in confidence and credibility.
Among others present were Lamia Morshed, Chief Adviser on SDGs, ADB Senior Adviser Edimon Ginting, Country Director Ho Yun Jeong and Deputy Country Director Xiangbo Ning.
