Addictology: In Tetouan, the INDH strengthens prevention among vulnerable populations

These actions translate into support for civil society, like the national risk reduction association (RdR – Tétouan), manager of the social center of the Tetouan Addictology Center.

Indeed, the RdR – Tétouan is actively engaged in awareness and advocacy programs to fight against addictive behavior, raise awareness among vulnerable populations of the risks linked to the use of these harmful substances and to achieve socio-economic integration of addictive people, particularly drug users.

As part of a partnership between the INDH, the provincial health delegation and the RdR-Tétouan, this association benefited, for two consecutive years, from an annual operating budget of 300,000 dirhams, which made it possible to achieve of social actions in favor of its beneficiaries.

“Since the inauguration of the addiction center and the Tetouan section of the RdR, in 2014, the association has forged partnerships with various actors such as the INDH, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and malaria, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection,” Khalil Lika, from RdR-Tétouan, told MAP.

These partnerships, he added, have contributed to the development of the association which today offers its services to more than 450 beneficiaries and targets around 300 addicted people annually.

In this line, beneficiaries like Rabia. M highlighted, in a statement to MAP, the positive impact of these social actions on their lives.

This beneficiary, aged 61, spoke of her fight against drug addiction which lasted almost 40 years.

“Thanks to the association, I was able to achieve complete withdrawal, benefiting since 2014, when the center opened, from psychiatric monitoring and appropriate medications,” she said.

Furthermore, and on the occasion of World Health Day, celebrated this year under the theme “My health, my right”, the social center of the Addictology Center of Tetouan, organized in collaboration with the RdR association -Tétouan, the INDH and partner actors from civil society, an awareness day for the benefit of its beneficiaries with the aim of breaking the taboo surrounding issues linked to drug addiction.

Supervised by social workers, this meeting allowed participants to express themselves freely about their feelings and emotions regarding the drug problem, their own experience of consumption and withdrawal.
