AS Monaco announced on Tuesday the arrival of Austrian Adi Hütter on its bench. The former Borussia Mönchengladbach coach has signed a two-year contract.

Austrian Adi Hütter is the new coach of Monaco, where he signed a two-season contract to replace Belgian Philippe Clement, dismissed after a season and a half, the French championship club announced on Tuesday.

Hütter, 53, had been without a club since leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach, Germany, where he only stayed for one season in 2021-2022, with a mixed result (10th place).

Previously, however, the Austrian technician, English-speaking and who began his career at 37, had managed RB Salzburg, the Swiss Young Boys of Bern and the Germans of Eintracht Frankfurt, with success.

Austrian and Swiss Champion

Coming from the Red Bull galaxy, just like the new Monegasque football director the Brazilian Thiago Scuro, Hütter thus achieved the Austrian Cup-Championship double in 2015 with Salzburg, then he was Swiss champion 2018 with Bern. He also finished 5th in the Bundesliga in 2021 with Frankfurt, having reached a Europa League semi-final in 2019.

Former Austrian international midfielder (14 caps), Hütter takes over from Belgian Philippe Clement, who stayed a season and a half in the Principality and who, with a 6th place in Ligue 1, failed to qualify the club for a European cup.

Arriving in Monaco on Monday, Hütter signed a two-season contract on Tuesday morning with the Principality club, where he is accompanied by two assistants, Klaus Schmidt and Christian Peintinger.

Monaco kicked off their season on Monday with a battery of physical tests at the La Turbie performance center under the direction of James Bunce, the club’s performance director. These physical tests continued on Tuesday for the 29 players called up, including Wissam Ben Yedder, Breel Embolo and Aleksandr Golovin.

From Wednesday, Hütter will lead the first collective session, before leaving for an internship in Birmingham from July 17 to 22. Its objective will be to allow Monaco to find Europe, or even the podium, at the end of the season.
