Adif will put the Torralba-Soria line into service on June 1, once the works of the first phase of modernization and improvement of the infrastructure of recent months have been completed. Once traffic has been restored, and as established by the regulations, train drivers will be trained, resuming commercial service once completed.

Due to the urgent repair of an overpass, at the request of the CyL Board and its ownership, located at km 8/100 of the line, the works will continue until May 31: the works carried out by the administration will end on May 29 and work to adapt the infrastructure in the area near the overpass will be carried out until May 31.

The comprehensive renovation works on the Torralba-Soria line (92.7 km), with an investment of around 77.5 million euros, are modernizing the infrastructure and increasing its reliability for a higher quality of service.

comprehensive renovation

The actions are focused on two sections: the one that runs from the Torralba station towards Soria (13 km); and a second -34 km- in the final stretch of the line to the Soria capital. In the 45.5 km of the intermediate route, which were previously renovated, specific improvements have been made to the track, level crossings (introducing strail-type rubber steps), drainages, ditches, etc.

The works have been undertaken in two phases: the first, which will end on May 31, has included works with long execution periods, incompatible with the provision of rail service. The second phase includes actions that are compatible with circulation and will be carried out at night, taking advantage of the maintenance bands.

The works include the renewal of the line track (replacement of ballast, sleepers and rail); layout improvements and the installation of new signaling systems and the railway-specific digital mobile radio system (GSM-R), which guarantees permanent contact between train drivers and Traffic Regulation Centers (CRC). They also included the remodeling and rearrangement of the tracks and platforms of the Soria and Almazán stations, already completed.

Currently, the cross drainage works are well advanced; the placement of conduits for the wiring of the Security and GSM-R installations along the entire route and the electronic interlocks in the Soria and Almazán stations.

Soria station: renewal and rearrangement of tracks and platforms

At the Soria station, a complete rearrangement of tracks and platforms has been undertaken and the assembly of new track devices and facilities, among other actions. The station will have two platforms: the main one, with access from the passenger building that serves track 1; and a second platform for tracks 3 and 5.

All these actions contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), which has among its goals the development of reliable, sustainable, resilient and quality infrastructure.

European funding

The renovation of the Torralba-Soria line will have European funding through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.
