Adir Miller is considered one of the most beloved and veteran comedians in Israel, but he also has a number of dramatic roles he has performed over the years in cinema, the most memorable of which is in the film I Once Was by director Avi Nesher. On the occasion of Remembrance Day, Miller shared another, relatively small role he performed, in a film entirely dedicated to an fallen IDF soldier.
Miller wrote: “About a year ago the phone rang and across the line I heard a hesitant young voice: ‘Mighty?’ A bereaved father hit me hard… A bereaved father’s request? What does a bereaved father want from me? Noni went on to say that the father is the father of the late Sgt. Daniel Sheeran, a young soldier who fell in the Second Lebanon War. “He’s short and he wants me to participate in this film. It’s a film starring only one actor.”
He added: “What is the film about?” I asked, “The film is about a virtual conversation between the bereaved father and his son in heaven. I’ll send you the script and we’ll be happy if you agree to do so. ‘ The next day the script came to me and I started reading it. I read the words and tears fill my eyes, a sharp pain pierces my heart and I stop every few lines and wipe my tears. When I finished reading the script I called the director Noni. “Have you read?” He asked. Making a film like this is a mitzvah for me !!! I just have a little question for you … “I told him:” This role is such a deep, serious and dramatic role. Why does the father insist on me? I’m a comedian and there are dozens of other dramatic actors who would do great. ‘
Miller continued: “Noni was silent and then said:” The same bereaved father is Professor Avinoam Sheeran and he is the head of the cardiology department at Carmel Hospital in Haifa. The one who talks to his fallen son. Avinoam insisted and asked only for you. “I was silent, really excited and the words came out of my throat. “Because of the role of a Holocaust survivor I played, a bereaved father asks me to participate in a film in memory of his fallen son.”
More in-
He concluded: “It showed me the mystical and strong connection of the people of Israel to these two days of remembrance. Holocaust Remembrance Day is in memory of the six million victims who were killed because there was no one to protect them while Remembrance Day is in memory of those who protected us and paid with their lives “There is no one to protect us. In memory of the late Sgt. Daniel Sheeran and other IDF casualties and victims of hostilities.
