Adjournment of Pongal gift package and sugarcane case to Jan 2 – Chennai High Court orders | Adjournment to January 2 in the case of Pongal gift package and sugarcane

Chennai,

On the 22nd of Chennai, the government announced that rice, sugar and other items will be given as Pongal gift packages along with one thousand rupees for the Pongal festival.

Many parties are protesting that sugarcane is not included in the gift package, which will be distributed from the first week of January. In this situation, Radhakrishnan has filed a case in the Chennai High Court to order the Tamil Nadu government to consider giving sugarcane along with the Pongal gift. It said, “We have planted sugarcane in the hope that the government will purchase sugarcane at a good price for the Pongal gift package.

But since sugarcane is not included in the Pongal gift package, it has to be sold at a lower price. Due to this, the families of sugarcane farmers are unable to celebrate Pongal with satisfaction. Since Pongal festival and sugarcane cannot be separated, I submitted a petition to the Tamil Nadu government on 24th December requesting to provide sugarcane along with the Pongal gift package. The petition should be ordered to be considered,” he said.

This petition came up for hearing in the Chennai High Court today. At that time, the public prosecutor, who appeared, made a request to adjourn the hearing on this petition to next Monday. Accepting this, the judges adjourned the case to January 2 in which they sought an order to provide sugarcane along with the Pongal gift package.
