by time news

There is a worldwide shortage of influenza vaccines. The international federation has therefore ordered an emergency meeting and approved a temporary exception to the veterinary rules.

On Thursday, September 8, the FEI decided to extend Article 1029.7 of the Veterinary Rules (relating to testing for EHV-1) to include testing for Influenza.

“The vaccine deficiency study conducted by the FEI epidemiology group confirmed that there could be huge consequences for the sport. However, most horses susceptible to influenza appear to be 0-4 years old. This risk group is more susceptible.” for the disease due to an underdeveloped immune system. Older horses can also be at risk. In other words, the biggest risk discipline is horse racing.”

The FEI vaccination interval of 6 months is thus extended to 12 months. “After all, horses that were vaccinated regularly appear to be less susceptible.”
