Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Adviser AF Hasan Arif expressed hope that the administrators will be able to use their skills and experience to make local government institutions stronger and more dynamic than before.
He expressed this optimism in the meeting of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Edimon Ginting at his office in the secretariat on Thursday (August 22) at 4 pm.
In the meeting, the local government adviser said that he is aware of the problems of the local government because of the benefit of working with the civil society for a long time. The help of various international organizations including ADB is needed to solve these problems.
AF Hasan Arif said that the work of various institutions related to the local government department through the existing development projects with ADB should be sustainable. ADB has long been one of ADB’s most trusted development partners. Among the 227 projects under implementation by the local government department, ADB has direct involvement in 15 projects. Another 11 projects are in the pipeline. The implementation of the ongoing projects and the implementation of the proposed projects should also be opened.
In the meeting, ADB Country Director Edimon Ginting said that ADB will work sincerely with the current interim government as before. Local Government Engineering Directorate and Public Health Engineering Directorate should be strengthened. Apart from this, various institutions of local government, including upazila municipalities, should be accelerated by decentralization.
In this context, the local government adviser said that administrators have been appointed in the local government institutions to prevent disruption of work. Hopefully, the appointed administrators will be able to use their skills and experience to make the institutions stronger and more dynamic than before.
In the meeting, the secretary of the local government department, Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, the chief engineer of the local government engineering department. Ali Akhtar Hossain, Chief Engineer of Directorate of Public Health Engineering Tushar Mohan Sadhu Khan, Dhaka Wasa Management Planning AKM Sahid Uddin, ADB Deputy Country Director Jinangbo Nin, ADB Country Operations Head Na Un Kim and other local government department and senior officials of ADB were present.
