ADMK Withdraws from BJP Alliance Citing Poll Results as the Main Reason

In a surprising turn of events, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) party has announced its withdrawal from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance. New information has emerged suggesting that the recent poll results are the primary cause behind this decision.

Sources within the ADMK revealed that during the Lok Sabha elections, the party had intended to contest in 30 constituencies. However, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami decided to allocate 10 seats to the BJP. A meeting was held with Union Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, where the ADMK requested an additional two constituencies. Surprisingly, the request was denied by Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai.

According to sources, Annamalai argued that without the support of O. Panneerselvam’s team and T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AUM), the ADMK would not be able to win in 13 constituencies. Therefore, Annamalai insisted on forming a mega alliance comprising parties like ADMK and DMDK by allocating 25 seats. He presented statistical data prepared by a team of officers to back his claims. The data showed that if Panneerselvam formed an alliance with ADMK alone, without Dhinakaran, they would not receive more than 20 percent of the votes. On the other hand, a mega alliance could potentially secure 30 to 35 percent of the votes, fueled by dissatisfaction with the current government and support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Annamalai further pledged to strengthen the party and form a mega alliance by December, with the aim of winning significant constituencies. He expressed confidence in significantly increasing the BJP’s vote bank in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and positioning the party as the primary opposition in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

However, the BJP showed no interest in continuing seat-sharing talks with the ADMK following this disagreement. Meanwhile, an English TV channel conducted a poll, which indicated that if the ADMK contested alone without forming an alliance with the BJP, it would still secure victory in five constituencies.

A private survey company’s report supported this notion, highlighting Karur, Pollachi, Coimbatore, Erode, Vellore, Salem, Krishnagiri, South Chennai, and Tiruvallur as favorable constituencies for the ADMK. Based on these findings and the BJP’s separate alliance plan, Palaniswami made the decision to withdraw from the BJP alliance and pursue victory in these nine constituencies.

The sudden withdrawal from the BJP alliance has raised questions about the future of ADMK’s political landscape. It remains to be seen how the party will navigate the upcoming elections and whether they can secure victory in the favorable constituencies mentioned in the survey. Our correspondent will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they unfold.
