The arrangement for the provision of work by private doctors to the NHS was “temporarily” withdrawn today (12/4) by the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, after the strong reactions of the NHS doctors and the opposition parties.

“I accept the Parliament as a field for dialogue and not confrontation. I do not want an important reform to be hidden behind a procedural issue. I delete it. I will bring it next week in an amendment”, said Mr. Georgiadis, who even claimed that the regulation was also a request of the Panhellenic Medical Association and other bodies of the medical world… “Since you say that you did not understand that I would do such a thing , because our government has established the rules of good legislation and I don’t want to leave any shadow, we will bring it next week with an amendment”, he emphasized.

Earlier, Dionysis Kalamatianos from SYRIZA said “Mr. Minister, the debate is not only that it was taken by surprise, but you go and do something you did not foresee. What you described to the committee and bring here is essentially an article. It is independent. Bring an amendment and not 10 minutes of legalese. Because it is not legally technical and of course there must also be the report of the general accountant”.

At the same time, Michalis Katrinis noted that “no one doubted that it was your political intention to bring it. You said it, we disagree. It’s a surprise when you insert a provision of law at the end of the list. So the deputies do not have the right to position themselves.”

Mr. Georgiadis concluded by emphasizing that “I accept the Parliament as a field for dialogue and not confrontation. I don’t want an important reform to be hidden behind a procedural issue” adding that it was a request of the Panhellenic medical association.

It is noted, however, that there had been a confrontation between the Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidaki, and the representatives of the opposition. She herself had rejected their request to withdraw the regulation in question on the grounds that it was something the operators had requested, the minister had announced it and it came.
