Heroic freedom fighter Farooq-e-Azam Virpratik was sworn in as the advisor to the interim government.
On Tuesday (August 13) at 11 a.m., President Md. Sahabuddin recited the oath to him.
The swearing-in ceremony started with the National Anthem in the Durbar Hall of Banga Bhavan. Then a minute’s silence was observed in memory of those killed in the quota reform movement.
After the reading from the scriptures, the swearing-in ceremony begins. The program was conducted by Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain.
Farooq-i-Azam took the oath of duty first as an advisor and then of secrecy as per the rules. After taking the oath, the new advisor signed the oath book.
After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the mass movement of students, the journey of the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus began on August 8.
On that day Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and 13 Advisers took oath from the President. They are – Anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Nahid Islam and coordinator Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Farida Akhtar, Nurjahan Begum, Sharmin Murshid, Salehuddin Ahmed, M Sakhawat Hossain, Professor Asif Nazrul, Adilur Rahman Khan, AF Hasan Arif, Md. Tauhid Hossain and AFM Khalid Hasan.
As 3 members of this 17-member interim government were out of Dhaka, they could not take oath that day. Among them, Supradeep Chakma and Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy took oath on Sunday.
Farooq-e-Azam, who participated in Operation Jackpot, was a hero in the United States. From there, he returned home on Sunday night.
