Aena has finally recovered the income level of 2019, before the pandemic broke out and its business was tremendously affected. The manager of Spanish airports registered a net profit of 1,139 million euros until September, which is a figure higher than the 1,114 million in the same period of 2019 and 71% more than what it registered in the first nine months of last year. , as reported by the company to the CNMV this Thursday.

Total revenue increased by almost 20% to 3.8 billion and total sales already exceed pre-pandemic levels by 15.6%. Thus, its gross operating result (Ebitda) amounts to 2,114 million, with a margin of 56%. This figure represents a growth of 39% compared to the same period in 2022, although it remains slightly lower than in 2019, when it amounted to 2,137 million.

At Aena airports in Spain, traffic in the first nine months of the year has reached 216.6 million passengers, which represents an increase of 17.6% compared to the same period last year and is equivalent to 101. 3% of traffic between January and September 2019. Based on these results, Aena estimates that 2023 will close with around 280 million passengers in Spain, which will be equivalent to a recovery of 102% of 2019 traffic, within the range expected for 2023 (94%-104% of 2019 traffic).

During the presentation of results, the president of the company, Maurici Lucena, showed his satisfaction with the results recorded and announced that the outlook is very positive for the end of the year, also taking into account that national traffic has almost completely recovered. overcoming the crisis period of the pandemic. For this reason, he anticipated a record of 280 million passengers and close to the benefits of 2019.

On the other hand, Lucena considered that the impact in Spain of the possible ban on national travel with a rail alternative of less than 2 and a half hours proposed by PSOE and Sumar would have a “limited” effect on Spanish airports. “I have to say clearly that most domestic routes in Spain do not have a rail alternative of less than two and a half hours,” the manager justified.
