Aenor finally promotes Garamendi to president of its main company

New presidency for Antonio Garamendi. Just over half a year after he was re-elected to lead the CEOE for another four years, the Basque businessman was promoted this Monday to president of the board of directors of Aenor Confía, the main company in the certification, inspection and analysis segment within the new holding company created under the ownership of the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) in which the certifier is framed.

In reality, this position comes late, since the company had planned to promote its until now vice president – ​​a position in which he had been six years old – on the board of directors that he held in the middle of last February, but it coincided with the controversy that was generated at that time after his salary was made public (400,000 euros per year) and the regularization of his situation in the employer’s association (when he went from being self-employed to a salaried employee). In addition, the situation became entangled by some statements by the businessman in which he compared the criticism received to blaming “the girl who was in a miniskirt” for a rape. Aenor postponed this appointment arguing that, despite it being on the meeting’s agenda, it was missing some legal reports that were necessary to be able to carry it out and that they could not be ready by that date.

More appointments

Now Aenor took advantage of the restructuring it carried out this Monday to make this position official and in turn appoint the proprietary director Ignacio Cortés vice president of the board of Aenor Confía. The independent directors Luis Atienza and Álvaro Cuervo also join the board of directors. Rafael García Meiro will be CEO; Luis María Cazorla Prieto, secretary of the council; and Luis Cazorla González-Serrano, deputy secretary and general secretary, according to the firm in a statement.

In line with this reorganization, the Confidere Corporation has also been launched, which becomes the owner of 100% of the capital of various commercial companies under the presidency of Alfredo Berges.

However, the certifying company stressed that all activities will continue to operate under the trade name Aenor, without any changes in the relationship with customers or other interested parties.
