India won the last match against Afghanistan by a huge margin as part of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
The match between the two teams in Group D was played on Saturday night at the Salt Lake Ground in Kolkata. Attempts by both teams to score from the start were in vain.
In the second half, captain Sunil Chhetri scored the first goal brilliantly in the 85th minute with a free kick opportunity. The Afghans then engaged in an attacking game, with its hero Jubo Amiri scoring in the 88th minute. This led to a 1-1 draw.
Sahal Abdul converted a pass from Aashiq in extra time for the Indian side, who were inspired to win. Eventually won 2-1. India are second in Group D with 6 points after the win. India face Hong Kong in the final match on Tuesday. Group Win and the top 5 run-up teams will qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup Football Tournament.
