/ The Asian Football Confederation described on Friday the decision of referee Alireza Faghani, who holds Australian citizenship of Iranian origin, to expel the Iraqi national team player Ayman Hussein in the match between his team and the Jordanian national team in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 as “correct.”

This came in a statement issued by the Federation after receiving many inquiries regarding the decision to issue a second warning and consequent expulsion against player Ayman Hussein.

The federation said in its statement that “the second warning that Ayman Hussein received was a correct decision by the referee, according to the rules of the game,” strongly calling on “the fans, the media and all parties involved in the game to respect the decisions taken by the match referees.”

The Iraqi national team bid farewell to the Asian Cup, with a difficult loss to its Jordanian counterpart, who scored a fatal goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time after the end of regular time in the controversial match, especially after it witnessed the expulsion of Iraqi striker Ayman Hussein.
