The AfD caused a stir at the first session of the Thuringian state parliament – and received criticism. This also comes from within our own ranks.

After the scandal in the Thuringian state parliament, AfD member of the Bundestag Klaus Stöber criticized his party. On Facebook he described the behavior of AfD politician Jürgen Treutler and CDU MP Andreas Bühl as a “tragedy”. According to Stöber, the MPs did not meet the voters’ expectations.

The incident occurred during the first session of the Thuringian state parliament, at which Treutler was supposed to have served as senior president. Stöber emphasized that Treutler’s job was simply to lead the meeting until the election of the state parliament president. This would normally have ended after about an hour.

Stöber also criticized Wiebke Muhsal’s proposal for the office of senior president. “I like Wiebke and she would have filled the office well. But with her conviction for fraud from her work as a member of parliament in 2014, she was of course the worst possible way to convince the others to vote,” the MP writes on his Facebook profile. Instead, he suggested nominating another member like Jörg Prophet.

Stöber also suspects that the party leadership may have consciously planned the course of events. He explained that this serves to retreat into the role of victim. The Bundestag member also criticizes this sharply: “I find this strategy from Björn Höcke and Co. wrong and not in the spirit of the 33 percent of voters who have great expectations of us.”

Stöber expressed concerns that the behavior of all factions could deter citizens from voting. Some might even become radicalized. His appeal was directed at all parliamentary groups to orient themselves more closely to the will of the voters.
