“AfD proximity”: State representation of Baden-Württemberg issues cease and desist declarations

DThe state representation of Baden-Württemberg in Berlin has issued two cease-and-desist declarations. She undertook not to accuse WELT author Henryk M. Broder and lawyer Joachim Steinhöfel of being “close to the AfD” again, as Steinhöfel reports on his website.

In the course of the cancellation of an event at the end of August, the state representation wrote with CDU party leader Friedrich Merz, US Senator Lindsey Graham, Broder and Steinhöfel in a tweet that has since been deleted: “After the organizer informed us of the other speakers of the ‘Transatlantic Forum’ on August 31. named, we will withdraw from the rental agreement and not allow the event to take place on our premises. The speakers mentioned would have a “strong proximity to the AfD”, the event was likely to damage the “reputation of the state representation”.

Later, the state representation wrote down Twitter, the original tweet was not worded correctly and was therefore deleted. The event of the agency “TheRepublic” was initially canceled by Merz. Its spokesman had given the “changed program” as the reason. In response to Merz’s cancellation, US Senator Graham canceled a separately planned meeting with the CDU leader. According to BILD, Graham said: “Conservatives are about an open, honest dialogue.” Conservatives would “not cancel each other before they speak”.
