In the country there are 7,337 producers with partial impact on their crops and 1,889 with total impact. With partial impact there are more than 20,000 hectares and with total impact there are more than 5,000 hectares.
In total, the damages amount to around $13 million. These were the figures revealed by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Danilo Palacios, on Wednesday, March 6, before the Commission on Food Sovereignty and Development of the Agricultural and Fisheries Sector, of the National Assembly, where he went to present the actions carried out by that state portfolio before the winter stage.
Palacios also revealed that between November 2023 and February 2024, the MAG Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Innovation Project (Piater) benefited 43,075 agricultural and livestock producers nationwide. The technicians provided 137,654 technical assistance and 14,621 training sessions on topics related to improving productivity for the country’s producers.
Likewise, through the CampoSeguro project, 7,940.50 productive hectares were secured, belonging to 3,295 producers, with a subsidy of $331,445. CampoSeguro, a MAG project, provides protection to crops against damage caused by climatic phenomena or pests.
In his appearance, Minister Palacios also addressed the regulations of the Organic Law to Promote the Production, Marketing, Industrialization, Consumption and Setting of the Price of Milk and its Derivatives, the execution of the National Agricultural Registry (Renagro), among other topics.
Regarding the execution of Renagro, he said that through this information will be collected on producers, crops and hectares, to have updated information on the agricultural sector and focus public policies on the rural sector. In addition, Palacios participated in the Biodiversity and Natural Resources Commission, where he presented the actions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in the six provinces of the Amazon, where sustainable production free of deforestation is promoted.
