Can be a new mediator between us and the UN, including in the issue of reducing the level of sanctions pressure, and we ask her for assistance in a peaceful settlement in the region and in Afghanistan in particular, as well as in the process of rebuilding our country. “, – he said.
According to him, the new Afghan government expects tangible positive results for Kabul at the upcoming meetings of the United Nations Security Council.
On the eve of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin said that on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Russia had called for the normalization of the situation in Afghanistan and the coordination of the efforts of the international community to solve problems in the country.
The diplomat also commented on the request of representatives of the Taliban movement (recognized as terrorist and prohibited in the Russian Federation) to the UN to speak at the high-level week of the General Assembly. According to Vershinin, the issue of the representation of the movement is complex, and it will have to be resolved in accordance with the rules of the organization. In his opinion, the main task, which is also to be solved at the moment, is “the question of coordinating the concerted actions of the international community with regard to the situation in Afghanistan, especially its humanitarian dimension.”

The day before, UN Secretary-General António Guterres had said that it was necessary to introduce exemptions from some of the sanctions against the movement. So he commented on the possibility that at some point the new leadership of Afghanistan will have to be excluded from the list of UN terrorist organizations.
