A 27-year-old Afghan boy died of a gunshot wound after protesting against an urban rodeo on Sunday in Colmar. “I open today (Monday) a judicial investigation, with referral to an investigating judge for the charge of assassination against X”, indicated the prosecutor of Colmar Catherine Sorita-Minard, while specifying that “the or the perpetrators are on the run”.

The facts took place on Saturday in the middle of the day in the district of Europe, in Colmar. A group of Afghans were sharing a barbecue, before being bothered by the noise of scooters in the middle of a rodeo. There followed an altercation with the driver, who ended up leaving the scene to come back and shoot one of the members of the group and flee, according to a police source.

Another police source reports that “one of the perpetrators was coming and going. The situation then quickly degenerated with the group of Afghans to which the victim belongs, and a group to which the driver of the scooter belonged”. According to her, the shooter was not necessarily the driver, but was in any case in the latter’s group.

The young Afghan was hit in the chest. Hospitalized in critical condition, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Mulhouse branch of the judicial police is in charge of the investigation. Monday, at the end of the day, the Minister of the Interior announced the dispatch of the CRS 8 to Colmar, a mobile unit specially created to intervene throughout the territory. “Significant means are being implemented to find the Colmar killer,” said Gérald Darmanin on Twitter. The mayor of Colmar, Eric Straumann (LR), estimated on Facebook that “the death of this young man affects the entire Colmar population”, calling for “not to feed social networks with comments as excessive as they are useless” and to let “the police do their job”.
