It is now reported that Afghan Taliban authorities closed one of the main trade and border crossing points with Pakistan on Sunday. Afghanistan accuses Islamabad of breaking its promises. In a report published by ‘The Dawn’, Afghan Taliban Commissioner Torgam said that a border area used for travel and transit trade has been closed.

Maulvi Mohammad Siddiqui, the Taliban commissioner in Torgam, tweeted that “Pakistan has not followed through on its promises, so the border area is closed on the instructions of our leadership,” and advised Afghans to avoid cross-border travel in eastern Nangarhar province.

The Taliban are unhappy with Pakistan

The Afghan Taliban are angry with Pakistan. However, the Taliban official did not specify which pledge Islamabad had broken, and some unconfirmed media reports suggested the Taliban were angered by the unannounced ban on Afghan patients traveling to seek treatment in Pakistan.

Tension between Pakistan-Taliban

It is noteworthy that there is tension in the relationship between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Saturday that if the Afghan interim government does not demonstrate the “willingness and ability” to crack down on terrorist groups operating from its borders, it will not take long to eliminate terrorism wreaking havoc in Pakistan. He said this while addressing the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
