The 6th Summit of the Conference on Communication and Confidence Building Activities in Asia (CICA) was held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Russian President Putin said, “Afghanistan is one of the biggest security challenges in Asia. We need to use the resources of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and its regional counter-terrorism organization to stabilize the situation in the country.”

He also invited all Asian countries to engage in closer cooperation. The Russian president has been heavily critical of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan following a subsequent Taliban takeover.
