“The fall of Kabul was essentially caused by a wrong strategy of the last three years on the part of the United States. Furthermore, it is inconceivable to say that it was not thought that the Taliban could advance so fast. the plan to abandon the Afghans to their fate and this is not acceptable. Too many times similar events have occurred that have also involved the allies ame rican like the Italians. If an agreement is incomplete and lacks defensive posts and the fundamental part of intelligence, then disaster occurs. How was it”.
Do you think there could be a resumption of international terrorism with the Taliban in power in Afghanistan?
“In the new policy of the Taliban and their leaders, at least at the beginning, there is no intention of being a state that helps forms of terrorism. Afghanistan becomes an ally of the new Asian autocrats, from China to Iran, passing through Russia and Pakistan, both from an economic point of view – Silk Road – and from a strategic positioning point of view. The Taliban have no intention of becoming an emirate of terrorism, they do not jeopardize a long path and a victory obtained thanks to the errors of the West “.
Does NATO still make sense?
“There is a component in NATO, of which Italy is also a part, which in the last three years has always said that Afghanistan could not be abandoned, but the response of the United States has essentially been ‘ok, then stay with you to defend the government of Kabul. ‘The component that really commands is always the American one and pursues its interests, on the other hand the US contributes 70% of the expenses of the Atlantic Alliance and is the majority shareholder. Afghanistan falls and Iraq is also in the balance, we only think of Lithuania it means that something is not working. “The American line is to fight containment wars, but the word victory cannot be eliminated. While the West fought battles for human rights and to defend the populations, China expanded its politics and its influence thanks to ‘soft power’ becoming the reference for at least 60 countries in Asia, Africa and South America. Beijing lends money without looking at what the internal politics of that country is or who the people in power and today presents himself as the great mediator in Afghanistan too “.
